got to see both of the shell shrimp today along with a new organism. A bivavle mussel was seen near the bottom of the tank. The shell is mostly clear allowing me to see the gills aducter muscels and the digestive glands. It was using is large foot to move around the glass along with its mouth to suck in water and nutrients. was not able to identafie it but was able to get some pictures and video of it. along with the seed shrimp, Rotiferas, actinosphaerium, some algae coloines, and one of the bulbs of the plant.

observations 11/7/08

At first glance the slide seems rather dead with much of the plants losseing their color. The numbers of rotiferas has deceased along with the analides who seem to have disappesared completely. the number of blubs on the plant B seems to have increased and the blubs that had changed color seem to have darkend to a more indigo color. This color change may be a indicator of the death of the plant. Was able to find a Epistylis on the remains of a plant only one but it was still intereseting. The number of astornionella seems to have boomed only these are free floating rather than bunched up in a star formation. Also their are small redish orange diatom colonies that seem to go well with the autumn leafs outside. Their are also a few actinosphaerium floating around. Also was finally able to identafie the my unknown swimming kidney bean friend, and he is known as a seed shrimp. Their may be another seed shrimp swimming around in there but we will have to see.

observations from 10/31/08

observations from 10/31/08

The water sample from fountian city park is proveing to be a rather interesting with the addition of Utricularia vulgaris. Two of the blubs have taken on a purpleish color as if dyed with Iodine. Iodine exsposere would have colored more of the bulbs but its only two and their at the very bottom of the slide. Multiple small analids have also been seen possable offspring of the ones seen earlier or they were just hidden in the muck. Two of the new analids have become traped by the blubs of the plant. Identafied a star shaped Diatoms Genus: Asterionella their are two possablie names for the diatom. Been tracking a small kidney bean shaped organism with what appears to be two tinsel flagelum and at least one eye spot. He is rather fast makeing it hard to keep the scope on him will try to get a picture of him soon and others.
